Math Fun

These pictures show our students using math manipulatives to create  interesting structures, unique patterns and designs, as well as beautiful pictures! As part of Responsive classroom, our math manipulatives were introduced and the students brainstormed a variety of uses and then were given time to explore and use them.

First Day of School

Each student arrived to school and found a clipboard with a classmate scavenger hunt as well as a bookmark they made last school year on move-up day. The scavenger hunts were completed for morning work, and later in the day we shared our findings. We discovered many fun and interesting things about each other.
Our classroom on the first day, before any students arrived! My goal was to take pictures of the kids as they arrived and as we enjoyed our first day together, but I got caught up in the excitement and chaos of the first day and forgot to take the camera out again!

Pizza Party

On August 24, many of the fourth graders and their families came together at GCS to meet me and see the classroom. We enjoyed wood-fired brick oven pizza courtesy of my husband, Dan, and our friend and pizza partner, Tristan. We also had some delicious sides and desserts brought by the fourth graders and families!
