Navajo Sandpaintings

During the last month, we have been learning about the Navajo people, a Native American tribe from the southwest region. The Navajo are known for their jewelry, weavings, pottery, and sandpaintings. The fourth grade listened to a story about the purpose of sandpaintings. They learned that each symbol in a  sandpainting has a meaning. Each child created their own sandpainting and wrote about what it meant using the Navajo symbolic meanings and their own ideas.
